So I asked my good friend ChatGPT for the navigational flags for F E A R N O T and painted them in.  Then I prompted (love that verb) for some translations and visuals of “fear not” in different forms of communication.Different languages.  Different alphabets.  Then I added in some notes I had been taking from books I was reading. If you blow the art up on your screen, you will see translations, Arabic and Greek letterings (to name a few), phrases, song lyrics, and the signal flags. I thought the book might be something like the old Foxfire books about living off the land. Instead, as the stories unfolded — including the creation story of Turtle Island — the painting slowly began to take shape.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"878\" data-start=\"849\"\u003eA reclining dreamer appeared.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1180\" data-start=\"880\"\u003eHer braids drift through the water like currents, carrying the movement of the painting across the canvas. Around her, the dream fills with sea life — fish moving through open water, shells and reefs, and above them a dark celestial planet holding Turtle Island itself, a world suspended in space.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1394\" data-start=\"1182\"\u003eAt one point a snake appeared in the painting and honestly scared me. Instead of painting it out, I placed it inside an unbreakable glass globe.
